The Revue Must Go!
I’ve decided to send the Logitech Revue back to Logitich. However, they don’t know it yet. The problems I’ve been having still exist. This device is a very cool device when it works. I love the fact that I can surf the web, listen to Rhapsody or Pandora while I look at live television. I believe I have been more than patient with screen lockups, sound issues, etc….
I will go back to using my Apple TV. I put it aside when I go the Revue. Apple TV is a much more stable device but I can not browse the internet and neither does it have a “picture in picture feature”. My hope is that Logitech will send me a newer model, if they have one available. To quote a line in the movie “Under Siege”; “I guess we’ll see what we’ll see won’t we?” I’ll be in touch.

Update on Logitec Revue with Google TV
It’s been a long time since I’ve written a post. Let me take the time to give you an update on my Logitech Revue with Google TV. After I wrote that post my wife surprised me with a Logitech Revue. I have the best wife ever! Needless to say I was like a kid in a candy store playing with it. My Revue came running on an older version of Android. However, Logitech did provide an update to Android 3.1 Honeycomb.
My Revue updated itself automatically upon turning it on shortly after Logitech announced the upgrade . I do like the new interface it provides but I have to do more key strokes to get to my bookmarks. Before, my book marks just appeared on my home page. Also the picture in picture feature is not as accessible as it once was. Logitech has made it where you have to do, again, more key strokes on the keyboard to manipulate the picture in picture functions. I also have been experiencing screen lock ups especially while I check my email with the picture in picture feature active. I have no idea why this happens. I assume Logitech is working on this.
Despite these flaws, I really like my Logitech Revue. When it works correctly, it’s a great device to have and is very convenient. Even though I have considered sending it back to Logitech since it is still under warranty I’ll research to see if there are any fixes I can do before I decide to contact Logitech. Stay tuned for Part II of this story to see how these flaws were resolved.
Since I first wrote a post on the Revue, I have seen the price drop to under $70.00. Keep in mind that some of these units are refurbished but may still carry a new item warranty in some cases. Check with your retailer before you purchase. If you do purchase a Logitech Revue, you’ll enjoy it. In fact my four year old nephew loved the book reading application and other learning websites such as Starfall.com as he viewed it on my Sony 60 inch big screen in the living room.
Enjoy!!
Logitech Revue “review”
The Logitiech Revue with Google TV is a product that many people will appreciate. Why do I say that? If you are like me, you like to sit in your living room on the couch and check your email, Facebook or watch Youtube videos on your big screen TV. Also you don’t want to take your laptop and connect the HDMI cable, audio cable, usb mouse, and keyboard to your laptop. Then you have to change the video input on your television monitor. Now you are surfing the web on your big screen TV. That’s a lot of steps and connections.
Now with Logitech Revue there is an easy hookup process however, its not as complicated as connecting your laptop to your home theater system and TV monitor to have surround sound internet content. You have basically a few connections. After that there is an internet set-up process if you are using wi-fi and pairing of devices for your cable or satellite box and home theater. You will also need to set up your Netflix, Youtube and other accounts to access them on the Reuve. After initial connecting and account setups, you can begin to have fun with this device.
Not only can you control your cable or satellite content but the Logitech Revue ships with several preloaded apps such as Netflix, NBA.TV and Pandora. And with many other apps available in the Android Market, there’s no telling what your TV will be able to do.
The Revue’s keyboard remote will control most cable or satellite boxes DVR functions. A downloadable Logitech remote is available to control your entire home theater system.
What I really like about the Revue is it’s price. I wrote about Sony’s Google TV in an earlier post. It cost about $299.00 and comes with a blue ray DVD player. If you don’t mind not having a DVD player, the Logitech Revue will set you back for only $99.00. Logitech just recently reduce the price from $249.00. Wow!!!!! I got to get one of these soon!!!.
Let’s talk about the remote. The remote is a qwerty keyboard with other functions on it. There is an available compact keyboard that “back-lit” and is about a little larger than a Playstation or Xbox remote.. But if you have an iphone or an android phone you can download from Itunes or the Android Market a remote control app at no cost. This will allow you to use your cell phone as a remote for the Revue.
Ladies and gentlemen, you’ll have full web content plus the apps. You can go anywhere on the web from the comfort of your living room on your big screen and switch it back to live TV content. Did I mention the picture in picture function? With this feature you don’t have to miss that touchdown pass play as you check your emails. You can even access your photos and videos from your personal computer to view on the Revue.
There are other set top boxes on the market, like Roku, Apple TV and even Sony has one without the DVD player. The Revue in my opinion offers more than these other boxes. Most of them will not give you full internet access. If you like surfing the web, checking emails on your big screen TV, the Logitech Revue with Google TV will serve you well.

Buying a Laptop Computer
School has started a few weeks ago for some of us which means you may be in the market for a new laptop computer. My advice, don’t get caught up in the hype about specs. Most people don’t know what they mean any way. If all you are going to do is check email, surf the web, word processing or perhaps an occasional “Skype”, you don’t need an expensive system to accomplish that. If your budget is around $325 and you want a 14-15 inch display, there are plenty of systems out there that will do those basic functions very well. Don’t hesitate to check out stores like Walmart and Target. You may be pleasantly surprised if you find a system there within your budget. Best Buy, Office Max, Staples and Office Depot do also carry less expensive laptops and more high end systems. Tiger Direct and other online sites offer very competitive prices as well. If you want to save more money consider a refurbished or recertified model. Refurbished or recertified does not nessesserly mean that the computer was “re-worked”, although some were. They can’t be resold as new so they are re-labeled as “refurbished or recertified and sometimes “open-box” with very good discounts. Some may be “scratch and dent items.” Most refurbished models are just customer returns. The customer may have returned it because it was the wrong model sent to them or upon opening it they just “fell out of love” with it. Ask about the warranty on “refurbs” because some will have a limited warranty such as 60-90 days instead of the usual 1 year manufacturers warranty. Some limited warranties are serviced by third parties and not the manufacture. Before you purchase a refurbished model inquire about the warranty policy. You can also find customer returns at local stores deeply discounted. Floor models and discontinued systems are worth serious consideration too. Most of these will carry the manufacturers warranty. Please stay away from purchasing an extended warranty. Most electronics do last far past their manufacturers warranties. Sometimes you do get lemons. A warranty purchase should only be done if you don’t have the funds to repair or replace the product should something goes wrong with it. An extended warranty on a car would make more sense than on a computer. But if you just want the peace of mind by all means ” show them the money”.

“Would you like the Turd Steak or our Booboo Burger Special, sir?”
Oh yes, it has come to this. With agri- science trying to find new technologies to create new foods, they have found a source that is almost unlimited, poop. Yes, I said it, poop, doodoo, turds, booboo crap and (the “s” word). You may be thinking “this guy is full of &8#@!” Read the following article from www.Naturalnews.com:
(NaturalNews) If you think meatless, genetically-modified (GM) soy food products are a poor alternative to real meat, wait until you see the latest in vegetarian meat replacement technology. According to a recent Inhabitat report, Japanese researcher Mitsuyuki Ikeda has developed a new kind of meatless burger made from soy, steak sauce essence, and — brace yourself — protein matter extracted from human excrement.
Ikeda’s poop burger is literally derived from “sewage mud,” which is just a nice way of saying that it was created from human waste. By extracting the protein and lipids from this “mud,” Ikeda was able to take these components, add a reaction enhancer to them, and process the slurry into a meat-like product. Ikeda then added a steak flavoring agent, soy sauce, and food coloring to the mix, and voila, an imitation meat product that he says tastes just like real beef.
According to reports, the final meat-like product is 63 percent protein, 25 percent carbohydrates, nine percent minerals, and three percent lipids.
“I admit that few people would be keen to eat it knowing it’s made of human excrement,” said Ikeda in an interview. “As far as the cost is concerned, because at the moment it includes the cost of research, our artificial meat is 10 or 20 times more expensive than normal meat. But once the research is complete and it’s put on the market, we’ll probably be able to price it at roughly the same level as normal meat.”
Ikeda added that, because his turd steaks are low in fat, they will supposedly be of interest to those who love to eat burgers but who want to watch their calorie intake.
You can watch a video explaining Ikeda’s process of turning stool samples into savory steaks here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1N6…
Trust me. I can not make this stuff up. Perhaps in the very near future your favorite steak restaurant will serve that steak you ordered made from your third cousins booboo. Oh what the heck, you may never tell the difference. Enjoy!

2011 Audi A-5
If you are the type of person who does not want to draw attention to yourself please to do not buy an Audi A-5. However if you like the attention you’ll get from driving an exceptional car then be my guest. Now I must inform you on what you are about to experience.
One of the first things you’ll encounter will be the looks you get from others. My wife drives a 2011 A-5. That’s her baby and she really loves it. Almost everyone comments on her car. The public really loves her black, sexy coupe. If she were single she’d have a bunch of phone numbers from guys trying to hit on her. It’s amazing what a car can do for your confidence (not that she needs it). So if you need some help with your self esteem perhaps an Audi A-5 may be the thing you need.
When you get in the Audi A-5 you’ll be encased in luxury appointments such as leather seats and wood trim. If you are an electronics greek you’ll love the A-5′s Multi Media Interface (MMI). The MMI controls your various media functions such as Sirius-XM radio, CD/DVD controls and the navigation system. You’ll also have a voice activation feature to operate several functions.
Being a former jet engine technician in the U.S. Air Force I can appreciate the sensation of thrust while flying in a jet aircraft. When driving the Audi A-5 you are not far removed from the same sensation. The Audi’s acceleration is very aggressively smooth and is quite capable of snapping your head back against the headrest if pushed. The 211 horse power turbocharged engine gets an EPA rating of 21 city and 31 highway miles per gallon. And while you are accelerating at 80 plus mph, you will appreciate the smoothness of the 8 speed transmission.
Now I must warn you, this car is a very performance oriented car and you will need powerful brakes to slow down the A-5. That is why the Audi has a very aggressive braking system that you will have to adjust to especially if you previously driven a non-sports car. These brakes really grab to slow you down when you are doing only 100 mph or so.
The Audi A-5 will not disappoint you with its gorgeous profile and jet-like performance. Be sure to expect lots of accolades and “hmmmmm, nice car” comments. Whether you are 25 or 55, you’ll make lots of friends when they see you driving an Audi A-5.

My Favorite Things
I have been a fan of Sony products for a very long time. I recall as a child getting a Sony cassette tape recorder for Christmas. Sony has been an innovational player in the electronics industry for many years. They brought us the “Walk-man” and they were instrumental in bringing us the “compact disc”. When I shop for electronics I usually look at what Sony has to offer. As a matter of fact, most of my home theater system is made up of Sony components. I guess you can call me “Sony Man”.
Another more recent innovation Sony has brought us is the “Sony Internet TV Blu-Ray Disc Player“. This is one of my favorite things because it integrates web surfing and television viewing. Sony uses Google TV to access the internet allowing you to check emails, do online banking and almost anything you’d do at your desktop or laptop computer. You can watch You Tube videos on your big screen in the comfort of your living room or home theater room. If you have a Netflix account, you can view your favorite Netflix movies. Sony Internet TV comes with not only Netfix apps but also Napster, Twitter and Pandora Radio, to name a few. Soon, you will have access to thousands of applications from the library of Android Apps.
Finding your favorite content is a breeze thanks to the intuitive handheld keypad with full QWERTY keyboard and optical mouse. With it you can navigate the internet, search for TV shows, apps, movies and more. I found the feel of the keypad satisfactory. Some have said it feels like a PlayStation 3 remote. It took me a little while to get used to it. One of the coolest features on the keypad is the “dual-view” key. This allows you to enjoy internet content and watch TV simultaneously on the same screen. You can also turn your Android phone or iPhone into an additional remote control and search content with voice navigation, or easily share web content between your phone and Sony Internet TV.
I encourage you to explore merging your internet surfing and TV viewing with the Sony Internet TV Blu-Ray Disc Player. If you were like me you were connecting your laptop to your TV for the same results. Now Sony has made it much more convenient with a stand alone item instead of constant connecting and disconnecting your laptop to and from your TV.
The current price point is about $399.99 at Sonystyle.com. As of this post, Sony is giving buyers a free Sony Internet TV Blu-Ray Disc Player with the purchase of selected Sony televisions.
I’d like to know if this or something else is one of your favorite things. Let me know.
